As the head of a legacy nonprofit in South Los Angeles, Sausedo knew that it wouldn’t be long before shortages of daily essentials would impact all areas, but underserved communities of color, where families were already living on the economic margins, would be especially hard hit. Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GYRD) Intervention and Prevention Southwest 1 Teams held a special “Spread the Love, Not COVID” Grab ‘N Go event on February 11. Over 200 gift bags filled with masks, first aid kits, hand sanitizers, bottles of water, candy, and COVID-19 fact sheet, CBI information, various hygiene items as well as lunch, were distributed to individuals and families.
